Governments sign for the defense of economic, social and cultural

The Thursday September 24, 1920 states began to sign the UN headquarters in New York an international agreement to address violations of rights economic, social and cultural rights. For the first time, the Optional Protocol provides a mechanism for access to international justice for people whose economic, social and cultural rights have been violated.
Countless people around the world, especially those living in poverty and face discrimination, suffer violations of their rights and denial of justice nationwide. The Protocol Optional allowed access to justice at international level and will also support efforts to ensure that effective remedies available for victims to access these rights in their countries.
"In this day has taken a decisive step towards justice for people whose economic, social and cultural rights have been violated," said Muthoni Wanyeki of the Human Rights Commission of Kenya, to begin 20 States at the UN headquarters signing the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
"The Coalition welcomes the significant beginning towards universal support for this historic mechanism: 33,794 people and NGOs from 111 countries have signed a global petition calling on States in a position to do so to become parties to the Optional Protocol through ratification. "
The following States have signed the Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Argentina, Belgium, Cape Verde, Chile, Ecuador, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Finland, France, Gabon, Italy, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Netherlands, Portugal, Senegal, Ukraine, Uruguay and Timor Oriental.
